Bill Block, Kevin Frakes Partner on $500 Million Film Slate with Merced
Production-financing veterans Bill Block (“Fury”) and Kevin Frakes have teamed with hedge fund Merced Capital L.P. to launch a $500 million slate of films under the Merced Media moniker.
The new venture will be a development, production and financing vehicle and unveil its first projects shortly.
The formation of Merced Media represents a vote of confidence in the independent sector with plans to produce a “filmmaker and star-driven” slate over the next three to five years.
Merced Capital has already invested in “The November Man,” “Rush,” “Term Life,” “American Ultra” and “Sing Street.”
Block is CEO of production and sales company QED International, financed by Media Content Capital, and producer of the upcoming Brad Pitt actioner “Fury,” Bill Murray’s “Rock the Kasbah,” “Elysium” and “District 9.”
Frakes is the CEO of PalmStar Media Capital and has been a film financing advisor to Merced Capital since 2012 with producing credits on “Term Life”; the upcoming “The Whole Truth,” with Keanu Reeves; Nima Nourizadeh’s upcoming “American Ultra” with Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart, and Lynn Shelton’s “Laggies” Keira Knightly and Chloe Grace Moretz.
Frakes also has exec producer credits include “Pawn Sacrifice,” starring Tobey Maguire and Liev Schreiber, Lionsgate’s upcoming “John Wick” starring Keanu Reeves, and Roger Donaldson’s “November Man.”
QED and Media Content Capital will be involved in projects in the new partnership with Merced Media.
