Ed Derian passed away on Friday in Havertown, MD at the age of 77. He was best known as the voice of Philadelphia boxing. Born Setrha Ejdaharian, and he never changed his name, he was an auto parts salesman who started as the ring announcer for boxing and did some wrestling as well, but before boxing was best known as the voice of the Eastern Warriors in Roller Games. A Top Rank boxing exec saw him doing Roller Games and recruited him to announce fights in Atlantic City. Things had been tough for him the past two years since his wife passed away. His right leg was amputated above the knee a few weeks ago and he was also diagnosed with dementia, which ended his broadcasting career. He had a very distinctive style, was charming on the air and well known in that area as a top tier announcer.
