HOME Entertainment will release an extended cut of “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” on Blu-ray, Nov. 4, that will add 25 minutes to the second FILM in Peter Jackson’s trilogy. The longer version will also be available to purchase through digital retailers in late October. The extra footage will extend individual scenes on the Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray editions. Overall, both versions will include MORE than nine hours of new bonus features, including audio commentary with Jackson, and co-screenwriter and producer Philippa Boyens; as well as “The Appendices,” a multi-part documentary focusing on various aspects of the film and the trilogy. Timing of the release comes as WB, along with New Line and MGM, prep to end the series with “The HOBBIT: The Battle of the Five Armies,” on Dec. 17. which will be available as five-disc edition (priced at $55) or three-discs (for $36). They will include a digital version on Digital HD and UltraViolet.
