Longtime Disney theme park attraction director Jerry Rees will lead the creative team behind “The Marvel Experience,” a live touring attraction featuring the company’s iconic super heroes.
Rees has helmed 16 of Disney’s theme park attractions around the world, including the pre-ride film for the Animal Kingdom ride “Dinosaur,” Walt Disney Studios Paris’ “Cinemagique” and the cruise ship attraction “Animation Magic,” a record for director. He also is known for helming the animated film “The Brave Little Toaster” and served as a visual effects supervisor on the first “Tron.”
“The Marvel Experience” bows later this year and will use a variety of multimedia technologies and interactive elements, including 4D motion ride simulators, 3D animation and Stereoscopic 360-degree full dome projection to bring Marvel’s characters to life.
The attraction will be designed as connected domes meant to resemble a temporary S.H.I.E.L.D. installation or “Mobile Command Center,” with the largest dome rising six stories high.
“’Firsts have always energized me and collaborating with like-minded, pioneering souls over the years to uncover new firsts has always been a joy,” Rees said. “This visionary project will add more firsts to the list, merging new-media immediacy, immersion and connectivity with a powerfully engaging spectacle. Hero Ventures’ choice of the iconic Marvel IP as the emotional engine and their use of a movable, multi-dome venue to involve new audiences is inspired.”
In addition to Rees, Los Angeles-based Hero Ventures also has hired visualization studio The Third Flood (“X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “Edge of Tomorrow,” “Iron Man 3,” “The Avengers”); scenic house Lexington Design + Fabrication; and animation and visual effects houses Prana Animation Studios and Rhythm and Hues Studios (“X-Men: First Class”) to work on the show.
Hero Ventures’ founders Rick Licht, Doug Schaer and Jason Rosen will produce “The Marvel Experience” with partners and executive producers Michael Cohl of S2BN Entertainment and Jere Harris of PRG.
